Casey Anthony trial begins short day of testimony ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Casey Anthony's defense team called a forensic geologist and a forensic toxicologist from the FBI as the first witnesses on Day 25 of the central Florida woman's trial in her daughter's death. Judge Belvin Perry told jurors that Wednesday would only be a half-day because he must attend a judge's meeting that had been previously scheduled. FBI geologist Maureen Bottrell testified that she analyzed 22 pairs of shoes taken from the Anthony home. She said three pairs of shoes had significant enough amounts of soil to compare with soil samples taken from the site where the skeletal remains of 2-year-old Caylee were found. Another FBI forensic witness, Madeline Montgomery, examined a hair found with Caylee's remains. She told jurors she found no trace in the hair sample of a number of drugs, including ones that can have a sedative or knock-out effect. On cross examination, Montgomery said hair is not the best way to test for drug exposure. "Even if it had been positive, I wouldn't have been able to say when or how often the person was exposed," Montgomery said. Anthony, 25, is charged with first-degree murder in Caylee's death in summer 2008. She faces a possible death sentence if convicted and has pleaded not guilty. The state contends she used pieces of duct tape to suffocate her child. The defense says the toddler drowned in her grandparents' swimming pool.
