A Boston tour company is suing to try to block a City Council plan that would ban Segways from sidewalks, the Boston Herald reports.
"The Segways must remain on the sidewalk," Boston Gliders co-founder Allan Danley, who has filed suit against the city in federal court, tells the newspaper.
The bill would require that Segway tour companies be licensed and have their routes approved by the city. It would also place an 8-mph speed limit on the vehicles.
Danley says the bill, which the mayor has said he will sign, would drive him out of business.
Councilor Sal LaMattina, who proposed the law, says Boston is a walkable city and these silent, motorized vehicles are "just absolutely dangerous to pedestrians."
